Magic Books

There is probably more literature about magic than about most other hobbies or professions.

The first Magic Book written in the English language - "The Discoverie of Witchcraft" written by Reginald Scot, dates back to 1584, and the rate of publication seems to have increased exponentially ever since then.

Magic Books represent an excellent way of learning magic, subject to certain provisos:

  • they should be well-written (e.g. concise, understandable language, clearly structured), although it has to be said that many publications are less than ideal
  • they should be appropriately illustrated, since, as the saying goes, a picture can be worth a thousand words.

So, where can you obtain these Magic Books?

There are a number of useful sources, including:

  • local libraries, which often stock a good range of Magic Books, primarily aimed at learners, that are available either directly, or via the Inter-Library Lending Service (in the United Kingdom, at least)
  • Amazon, who stock an extensive range of Magic Books, aimed at both beginners and the more advanced magician, and this site provides a comprehensive list of the ones sold by Amazon, split by:
  • Magic Dealers, where you will find a much wider range of books that cover almost every type of magic and skill level.
  • some of the Local Magic Clubs have small libraries of Magic Books (and Magic Videos) which members may borrow
  • some of the International Magic Clubs also have very large libraries, which members can use, either in person or by post.
